The Downward Arrow Technique

We explored the Downward Arrow Technique - a simple but powerful tool from cognitive therapy that helps uncover the deeper beliefs hidden underneath our everyday thoughts. By repeatedly asking “If that were true, what would it mean?” We peeled back the layers to reveal the root belief that often drives how we feel and act.

We practiced the technique a couple times together, each time starting with a surface thought, following the arrows downward, and then reflecting on what we discovered.
